C. Ashley Heppenstall
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Born in England in 1962, Ashley Heppenstall is a graduate of Durham University where he obtained a degree in Mathematics. From 1984 until 1990, he worked in the banking sector where he was involved in project financing of oil and mining businesses. In 1990, Mr. Heppenstall was a founding director and shareholder of Sceptre Management Limited. Since 1993 Mr. Heppenstall has worked with public companies associated with the Lundin family. In 1998 he was appointed Finance Director of Lundin Oil AB. Following the acquisition of Lundin Oil by Talisman Energy in 2001, Lundin Petroleum was formed and Mr Heppenstall was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 2002 until his retirement in 2015.
James R. Phillips
President and Chief Executive Officer
As of May 2014, Mr. Phillips has taken on the position of President and Chief Executive for the Lundin Group’s new exploration vehicle, Africa Energy Corp. He currently leads a world class team of explorationists based in Cape Town, South Africa with focus on Sub-Saharan exploration ventures. Mr. Phillips has previously held several positions within the Lundin Group including the Vice President-Exploration, Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President of Business Development for Africa Oil Corp. based in East Africa and Vice President Exploration for Lundin Petroleum based in Geneva. Mr. Phillips has amassed 32 years of experience in the oil and gas exploration business, of which 13 years have been directed towards African business development and new venture exploration. In addition to his experience with the Lundin Group, Mr. Phillips previously held key positions at Shell Oil Company and Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Mr. Phillips is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and San Diego State University where he obtained BS and MS degrees, both in Geology.
Vice President - Exploration
Mr. Maier has over 32 years' experience in African new venture
exploration with his most significant contributions coming under his
tenure at the former Energy Africa Ltd. ("Energy Africa") and Tullow Oil
plc. Mr. Maier was responsible for the overall exploration strategy and
oversight of his geoscience and commercial teams, which led to
significant basin-opening oil discoveries during this period in
Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Uganda, Mauritania, Gabon, Kenya, and French
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Kufflick is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the
University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce
degree. Mr. Kufflick has over fifteen years of experience focused in the
oil and gas industry. Mr. Kufflick has served as the CFO of Africa
Energy Corp. (formerly Horn Petroleum) since its inception in September
2011. Mr. Kufflick also served as the Corporate Controller of Africa Oil
Corp. beginning in March 2010. Prior to joining Africa Oil Corp., Mr.
Kufflick filled various financial roles, including Corporate Controller,
during the seven years he was employed by Trican Well Service Ltd. and
during the three years he was employed by KPMG LLP.
